While prices were high I said no to this question. But now that gas has fallen, the government should wait 6 months to see if prices start to go back up. If not, then a gas tax hike would be in order to support Detroit's efforts to push hybrids.

Should be used for bridges and roads. Even electric cars have to use bridges and roads.

No. Prices are high enough! Monies for research into alternative energy sources should be government funded or loaned. Consumers can not keep paying higher prices!

If the guarantee could be believed. Governments have long been noted to divert funds designated for specific purposes to items "they" want. I would foresee these "research & development" funds being used for "incentive" payments to producers of alternative fuels that are normally higher to produce. Overall, I believe the free market should dictate where we spend our money on fuels and when a better way is developed we'll use it. It's known the incentives provided the corn market has had a very definite effect on all corn products and derivatives. Don't make us pay more now for gas so we can pay more for our corn fed beef, etc.

I might be willing to vote in a tax increase if they could guarantee that the money was actually being used for research for better energy sources. So much of our tax dollars get diverted to other areas in which we are not informed and then when the time comes that money is needed for what it was supposed to be allocated for, here come the excuses! Besides the fact that every time we get a proposal for a tax increase, they always want to tack on those hidden agenda's. The average voter is not usually well informed on what they are voting on so then we end up in situations we really didn't intend.

NO, They already tax the crap out of us, Let them use those taxes for their own research. The government needs to do more for the highways and roads, they say the taxes are for those. Well they can look for Alt. fuels with that money.

Defenitely not !! We were told that the gas taxes were going to be spent on roads, and the gas taxes are spent on earmarks, I won't vote for a tax increase of anykind until the crooks in D.C. stop the earmarks,...as the democrats promised they would if they got control of congress,...?????? WHAT HAPPENED ???

I don't think that a gas tax is the best way to fund this. The tax will never go away.
